go see episode 3 NOW
that's one spectacular film mr lucas... thanks.

arriving at the theatre i was sure we would see a gaggle of star wars clad folks with plastic light sabres and whatnot ... the costumes were out but not as many as i thought i might see. there was a kid in a badly done chewbacca suit that looked more acurate to leia's 'walking carpet' descriptions, but there was also a really well done scout trooper (dude's that ride the speeder bikes in ROTJ), misc folks donned robes to look like jedi were spotted ...as were many digital cameras snapping pictures of those in costume.

after about half an hour in line (thanks to ryan/chris for saving us a good spot in line) we got into the theatre and steph and i went for the 'wide' row ... it's the first row of the second level of seating in the thaeatre where no one sits in front of you and you can stretch out comfy like ...with no heads to get in your way either! i went for popcorn and snacks (i wasn't passing up snacks on star wars night ..even at those theatre prices)

i assumed the theatre would be rather tight on security for the opening night performance at least. nope. we spotted about a dozen digital cameras flashing pics of ppl as they walked in in costume and took a bow. one guy even came in from another theatre to take a pic of the scout trooper dude... with a theatre staffmember escorting im making sure he went backt to his own theatre! staff seemed more concerned with people in line having 'external food or drink' they were with them carrying in a portable multimedia rig (one guy had a laptop in a bag ..put it in his bag and walked into the theatre, but had to get rid of his bottle of water before entering. to think i left my camera at home is a damned shame... the scout trooper uniform was really well done.

so after and hour and a half waiting patiently in our seats (and eating my entire bag of popcorn in eager anticipation of the movie) the room darkened and the screen started .... to skip and gurgle. stop the film ... fix the projection thingie ... apology from theatre staff person 'we'll be starting in 5 mins ...sorry *tee* *hee*' ... and FINALLY ... oh wait ... 15 mins of commercials about cars, body creams, lottery tickets and the all important squishee from mac's convenience store ... the movie started.

i forgive them for this ...i know the bills gots to be paid.

from the opening space battle scene to the 'birth' of darth vader i was hooked on this movie as much as i was during empire strikes back. it was dark and full of great fight scenes ... yoda/sidious being my favorite. the little green guy, despite self admitted failure, sure beats some major palpatine ass!

i wasn't keen on the love scene sections of the movie or any part where hayden christiensen had more than 2 minutes of dialogue without a lightsabre in his hands .. but recalling the 'kiss a wookiee' scene ... it's about par for the course with star wars and love scenes. i'll admit that "i love you" *pause* "i know" was a great line in empire ...but the kissing scene aboard the falcon that 3P0 interrupts is just as bad as the love scenes in this movie.

watching chewbacca pick up yoda after he chopped down two clone troopers made the entire theatre cheer and solidified him as the coolest character in star wars to me R2 totally rocked episode 3 in the manner i think george lucas might have wanted jar jar to portray in episode one. the brief amount of jar jar time in this movie made me very happy ...and seeing more of R2's unique personality rocked. 'wipe the protocol droid's memory' ... R2 gets to keep his memories (hopefully for a more prominent role the rumored tv show)

i left the theatre very satisfied ... but i question why obi-wan picks up anakin's blue lightsabre and then gives luke a green lightsabre and claims it was his fathers in episode 4.

no sleeps til star wars!!!
i feel like i'm 6 again ...all giddy to see empire with my brother ...but tonight i'm not going to see empire, and i'm not going with my brother (i'm pretty sure he'll be at the show with his kids in b.c ...if he's any kind of father heheheh )

i've seen each of the movies on their first run in the theatre, although tonight will be the first premiere i've been to. i usually avoid the fuss of opening night but this is the LAST movie so i'm gonna go.

ryan over at the ryan fan club picked up our tix for us with chris the other day (and i thought snoshi.com was self indulgent ...ryan's got his own fanclub) for the midnight performance.

steph and i have been watching the trailers repeatedly ...and i've read a few of the celebrity reviews that say it's great.

i'll write my own review when i get home...

friday the 13th ...
i've never been a supersticious person by any means (although i do have my 'rituals' before i get on stage) so today isn''t much more than another friday ...capping off a rather interesting week.

i worked a shift at the restaurant this week (fun spending a day in a kitchen with robbie g again), i applied for a job at providence continuing care (behavioral assessment and tx planning for special needs clients re-entering the workforce) and i spent a good chunk of time discussing business ideologies with friends and helping to write a promotional outline for their business.

the band met this week to talk about upcoming events (shows, EPK/website prep and recording) and we had an acoustic rehearsal at my place. we're doing a 'loud' rehearsal tonight (big thanks to my old bandmates in betablokka for the use of their space) ...it's been a while since we plugged in and turned up, so i'm kinda giddy. let's hope there's no friday the 13th bad luck tonight at rehearsal (broken fingers, busted gear and the like)

i was out on my bike quite a bit this week (and my ass is paying for it today i tell ya!!) ... had my palm pilot with me and did a lot of writing while sitting on the stairs behind the unlocked fence at the front of rockwood for a while ... it's an ominous place to sit on a strange cloudy day. i sat picturing the fountain full of water and bustling over the centre piece calming those that sat around it tossing rocks or staring at their reflection for hours... i wondered what people thought about staring at the fountain from their rooms.

the only good shot of the week ...

the internet's worst blogger...
considering i'm spending an awful lot of time online again these days ..i should really consider blogging more.

so what's new ...

...i spent a bit of time at pappa d's recently... great place with top notch gear and a great vibe. it'll be nice to haul my bike down there shortly to get on the trails behind it.

...jay rob, al and i met this week to talk about our summer plans, getting a record finished. finding a full time rehearsal space and makin' rock music for some people. the customary beer drinking and chin waggin' was nice ... it's been over a month since we've sat in the same room together ...nice to see everyone again. robbie g and i capped the night off with a pint at elixir getting rocked by the hugh dillon redemption choir.

we were a little late getting to the show @ elixir ... as usual at the door of any rock crew show, my name was listed as something other than my own name ... 'schlong bampton' was the name for the evening.

camera in hand i took a couple shots from the front of the stage and then quickly ducked down the staff hallway to get to the side of the stage ...the monitor eng moved over for me (thanks mike!) and left me pretty much with the best angle on the stage ...except on derek (drums) ...two amps stuck in front of him prevented me from getting anything good of the entire band from the right side of the stage ...so i snuck up beside him and snapped a couple from the top of his monitor. suffering again with the lighting i can't work cause i suck (although it was a lot brighter than it was for DFA 1979) i only got a couple good shots ...

paul langlois hopped up on stage with them for a song ... hugh introduced him as an old hockey teammate ... the place went off quite nice when he got up, of course. "you can always tell his guitar playing, that's for sure" robbie commented to me later on. another humorous hugh moment was the introduction of his parents "my parents will come and see me now that i'm in this band" ... i enjoyed the show totally and it was nice to see to derek again, been a long time and it's cool to see his new band doing well. guy's got so much talent it oozes from him ... in the form of sweat. he's sweatiest human i've ever known...
